While the app titled “TRAI DND – Do Not Disturb”, which helps curb unwanted calls and text messages was available for Android devices on the Google Play Store from way back in 2016, Apple did not permit TRAI to push its app to the App Store due to some privacy concerns as the app required the users’ call and message logs to be shared with government authorities. According to reports, an average individual in the country receives up to 10 unwanted calls and messages in a day which is undoubtedly a nuisance. To avoid this, users with the app can report those calls and messages which will then be blacklisted by TRAI by putting them into a “do not disturb” registry. While the second iteration of the app dubbed version 2.0 was already released for the Android platform earlier this year, iOS still lacked an app with similar functionality, until today, that is. The DND app can now be downloaded from the Apple App Store on iOS and while it’s unclear if TRAI has revised its privacy policies on the app for the iOS release, Apple seems to be convinced with the government’s proposition. The way the app works is users can manually select unwanted calls or messages they receive and using the built-in SMS/Call Reporting Framework built into iOS, DND automatically generates a complaint text message and sends it to the appropriate carrier for further action. The text message is sent free of cost, and the app itself is free to download from the App Store starting today and requires your device to be running on iOS 12.1 or above.
