Google has now announced at the ongoing Google for India event that it will be offering a special edition of Google Assistant for the JioPhone. The Google Assistant will be able to take voice commands in English and Hindi while responding to it in the same language. At the launch event Google showed how the voice assistant will be able to play music, videos, call and also help you open other apps. This is what Gummi Hafsteinsson, Product Management Director, Google had to say “For the first time ever globally, the Google Assistant will be available on a feature phone.” He further added that “Whether in entry-level smartphones or JioPhone, the Google Assistant can help you call, text, play music and videos, and access other apps.”
Google has released a host of apps best suited for Indian ecosystem, the company is trying hard to cater to the surge in data consumption. According to Google, the current average data consumption per user is 4GB/month in India and this is all set to climb up to 11GB a month. With the Go Apps and the optimised Android Oreo Go Edition, the company intends to improve the experience on entry-level phones. A quick recap, the Jiophone comes equipped with a 2.4-QVGA color display. The phone also comes with an SD card slot, Torchlight, headphone jack, FM radio and a basic camera. The JioPhone also supports 22-Regional languages and it comes with a voice assistant that seems to work flawlessly.
