With Microsoft ending support for Windows 7 officially, it’s really time for users to upgrade to the latest version now and enjoy the benefits at no additional cost. Given you have a licensed version of Windows operating system (Windows 7 or Windows 8) running on your machine, and it meets the minimum system requirements for Windows 10, you are ready to go ahead with the upgrade. However, do note that the process will wipe all your settings, data, and apps. So make sure you have a backup of all your important documents before proceeding further. That said, let’s move ahead with the upgrade process.

Steps to Upgrade to Windows 10 for free

  1.  Head over to the Download Windows 10 website.

  2. From the Select edition drop-down menu, select Windows 10 and hit Confirm.

  3. Choose your preferred language under the Select product language section and tap on Confirm.

  4. Next, tap on either the 64-bit or 32-bit Windows 10 version to begin download.

  5. Now, run the tool you just downloaded, choose Upgrade this PC now, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Once that’s done, you should now have Windows 10 up and running on your machine. Also, do note that, as soon as the upgrade is complete, you will get a license key for your Windows 10 operating system. To get this key, simply go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation, and you will find your license key here. However, in case you did not have the license key verified earlier, the setup will require you to enter a valid license key (depending on what operating system you are coming from), in order to continue with the installation process. Also, do note that, at the time of writing this article, Microsoft is continuing to allow users coming from Windows 7 or Windows 8 to upgrade to Windows 10. In our opinion, if you have a machine running on Windows 7 or Windows 8, your best bet is to upgrade to Windows 10 right away. As with Microsoft officially ending support for Windows 7, users will no longer be able to get the routine security updates, leaving their machine at high risk. And eventually, leaving them with no other option, but to upgrade to the latest version of Windows.
