The Surface Go is a 10-inch device that weighs in at just 0.5kg and is 8.3mm thin. What Microsoft aims to provide with the Surface Go is productivity on the move while still maintaining an extremely portable form factor and a slim profile. The Surface Go is equipped with a custom built high resolution PixelSense display with an aspect ratio of 3:2 that has support for Microsoft’s Surface Pen with 4096 different levels of pressure sensitivity, low pen parallax, low latency, and extremely precise for note taking as well as drawing or computer aided graphics purposes. As the Surface Go is mainly aimed at students, when held in the portrait mode, the screen displays content in the form of a page in a text book and when held in the landscape orientation, it display two pages side by side, actually simulating the look of a text book. Also, with the compact size, writing on the tablet with the Surface Pen seems more natural, almost like writing on an actual notebook. Under the hood, the Surface Go is powered by Intel’s 7th Generation Pentium Gold processor 4415Y and offers a fanless design with a claimed battery life of up to 9 hours. Given that the Surface Go is meant to be carried around as the name suggests, a strong battery life is a must have. The base variant has 4GB of RAM coupled with 64GB of SSD storage. The Surface Go Signature Type Cover offers a keyboard and a trackpad, converting the tablet into a mini portable laptop setup. The trackpad also supports five point multi-finger gestures, and you can also connect the new Surface Mobile Mouse if you do not want to use the trackpad. The hinge on the cover extends up to 165 degrees in case you wish to have a larger angle for some studio work or while placing video calls using the Windows Hello camera which also allows you to unlock the Surface Go using your face. Do note that the Surface Go Signature Type Cover as well the Surface Pen will be sold separately for $99 each and do not come bundled with the Surface Go itself.
The ports on the Surface Go are a Surface Connect port for charging and docking the device, a USB Type-C 3.1 port for data, video as well as charging, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a micro SD card slot for memory expansion. The Surface Go will be sold at an MSRP of $399 which translates to about INR 27,000 and will be available for pre order in US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Poland, Italy, Portugal, and Spain, with Japan, Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, China, and more markets to follow in the coming weeks. The Surface Go will begin to hit shelves in stores on August 2, with an LTE model to follow as well later this year.
