The latest Truecaller update brings in an SMS Inbox feature that lets you determine who’s messaging you. This will help filter out spam messages from important ones.[pullquote]Truecaller is clearly transforming into a Social app with this new update[/pullquote] The SMS Inbox feature will apparently be making use of Truecaller’s extensive caller ID database. As per a statement issued by the Swedish communication company, nearly 15 percent of all SMSes received by a user consist of spam or promotional ones. This new feature of Truecaller automatically identifies and blocks spam messages. Apart from that, the SMS Inbox feature of Truecaller 8 comes with flash messaging support that allows you quickly send out pre-determined text messages with requisite emojis to any Truecaller user. This feature will come in handy while you are driving, stuck in a meeting or emergency. That being said, the most notable feature of Truecaller 8 is the addition of a new UPI-based payment feature in India. The Swedish app maker has launched its Truecaller Pay service in association with ICICI Bank, which is the largest private sector bank in India in terms of assets. The Truecaller Pay app will allow any app user to send payments and make mobile recharges. Only pre-requisite for using the Truecaller Pay facility is to register your number and generate a UPI ID[SS1]. It’s worth noting that even non-ICICI Bank users can make use of the service and send money to an UPI ID registered with BHIM App.
Apart from this, Truecaller has launched an exclusive partnership with Airtel that allows non-data users to receive Flash SMS with details of the unknown number just before they receive the call. This feature, however, is restricted only to feature phones. The user can subscribe to this feature starting the beginning of April. Truecaller and Airtel have not, however, revealed whether any subscription charges would be levied on existing customers for availing this service. Finally, Truecaller will soon be allowing direct integration of Google Duo within its own app. In addition to making phone calls and send messages using the Truecaller app, users will soon be able to place video calls using Google Duo right within the Truecaller app. Pretty neat.
